This is a solaroller made from a Tyco slot car. The slot pin has been removed here for free wheeling, but could just as well be snapped back in for track racing. I put 2 1F gold caps in it because it's what I had lying around. Two also made a very stable solar cell platform. It takes about 6 minutes to charge up, with an unbelievable burst of speed when it pops. I can't really judge how far it goes because I don't have a smooth surface long enough. I think I'll set it on a small oval track out in the sun and see how many laps I can get. Took about 20 minutes to build, loads of fun.
As you may have already been able to tell, I'm not finished with a project until the project is FINISHED. Here is a body made to fit the Solar Slot Car chassis. It snaps on and off using the same clips as a regular body. This way I can make several chassis with different capacitor combinations and just switch them out under the body.
